Fairway Payments (FPI) is a merchant processing company dedicated to providing superior customer service and support to its customers and partners. We are comprised of experienced payment processing professionals who understand merchant services. Launched in March 2009, it is a structured spin off from Sage Payment Solutions (SPS) and a premier Independent Sales Organization (ISO) for Sage.

What is a merchant account?

A merchant account is a bank account that you must have to accept electronic card payments from customers such as credit cards, debit cards, electronic checks, gift cards, and other payment methods. Fairway establishes a merchant account on your behalf when you qualify for our payment processing services.

What are the requirements to open a merchant account?

In order to open a merchant account, you will be asked to complete a two-page application. Depending on different criteria, you may be asked to provide personal information, a guarantor signature, advertising examples and/or other materials that validate the existence of your business.

What sort of merchants does Fairway serve?

Fairway Payments serves most merchant companies. In order to qualify for our services you must have a bank account in the United States and a Federal Tax ID Number. Some types of businesses, including foreign businesses that do not meet these criteria and businesses involved with gambling, pornographic content, drug paraphernalia, and other restricted or prohibited category merchants are not eligible for our services.

What types of processing solutions does Fairway support?

Fairway Payments supports three different credit card processing options:

  • Integrated Software. If you’re processing payments — such as donations, membership fees, medical fees — that need to interface directly with constituent management software (CMS) or other database systems, Fairway can work with you to integrate a special software program that transmits the payment transaction from your application software to the card networks (e.g. Visa, MasterCard, Discover). Integrated software solutions enhance productivity and efficiency by making it easier to process batches, manage multiple merchant accounts, maintain databases, monitor transactions for fraud, and more.

  • Online Gateway. Busy merchants such as restaurants and retails stores who need to reliably process multiple transactions within seconds can benefit from an online gateway. An online gateway manages transactions for multiple locations through a single source using online merchant administration. Fairway Innovo is an online payment gateway that links your POS system directly to a credit card processing network to obtain authorization for the transaction. It can also manage your end-of-day settlement and reconciliation processes.

  • Basic Credit Card Terminal. For merchants who do not utilize PC-based systems, Fairway Payments offers processing using a basic credit card terminal. A bit slower and not nearly as efficient, terminals can only authorize one transaction at a time, provide only simple paper reports, and typically work using dial-up connectivity.

How much does it cost?

Fairway does not charge anything to establish an account. Set-up costs, monthly transaction fees, and discounts will vary depending upon the type of customized solution you choose. Customer support and services such as configuration, transaction testing, training and ongoing technical troubleshooting are always free, for the life of your merchant account.

Will changing my merchant account to Fairway cost me more than my current provider?

No. In most situations, we can even provide the insurance that your rates will not change. If our analysis verifies that your rates are high, your lower expenses become another reason to choose Fairway.

Will changing my merchant account require me to change my banking relationship?

Absolutely not! Fairway’s payment processing services are bank-agnostic. We can work with any U.S. depository (checking, savings, money market, etc.) account that you choose.

Can you describe the application and set-up process? How long does the set-up take?

Fairway makes the application process straightforward and simple. You will be assigned a dedicated account manager who will assist you every step of the way. We will mail, fax, or email you an application package, which includes the application form, a billing information agreement and your specific business verification requirements. We even provide a handy checklist to help you keep track of what you need to send back.

Once your completed application is approved, a technical representative will contact you within 48 hours to begin the installation and configuration process. This process typically takes less than a week.

Will someone help me install my equipment or software?

Of course! Fairway’s integration experts will walk you through the entire configuration and testing process to help ensure you’re up and running — and understand how everything works — in no time at all.

What credit cards can I accept?

Fairway can equip you to accept and process credit cards of all kinds. Commonly used credit cards are: Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, JCB, and Diners Club.

When can I expect money from my credit card sales to be available in my bank account?

Thanks to electronic processing, banks are able to process transactions and credit your account quickly and efficiently. While every bank has its own policies, funds are typically deposited in your business checking account within two business days after you’ve batched your daily business. To learn more about your own bank’s policies, talk to your bank representative.

How does Fairway make money?

Fairway generates revenue by providing merchant accounts. For the same rate and fees you might pay a “data processor” you receive the added support benefits of Fairway – integration, configuration, testing, training, troubleshooting, fraud monitoring and administrative support – at no additional cost.
